One of the most breathtaking views in Oahu, and probably the world, is atop the Haiku Stairs – also known as the Stairway To Heaven – on the Koolau mountain range in Hawaii. It’s completely illegal to go up there with only a rusty steel railing to keep you from tumbling down the edge of the cliff. There is also a swing at the top, which you’d have to be completely insane to go on.
The Staircase at Pagsanjan Falls, Laguna in the Philippines
The Pagsanjan Falls in the Philippines is an incredible natural landmark hidden deep in the jungles of Laguna, about 2 hours from Manila. Getting there isn’t for the faint of heart, though, with the only passage in being 672 rickety steel stairs that snake their way between trees and up cliff faces – thankfully, you have to wear a harness.

This work of beauty is called Umschreibung, meaning rewriting, and is an unbelievable merging of architecture and art. Standing 9 metres tall, the staircase is never-ending and stands in front of the KPMG building in Munich, Germany. Visionary artist Olafur Eliasson designed it.

This winding winder is an art installation inspired by roller coasters. It sits atop a hill called Magic Mountain, and you can walk on it – views from the top are incredible, spanning the entire city of Duisburg.
Taihang Mountains Spiral Staircase in China
Dubbed the world’s most dangerous staircase, this epic spiral structure scales a sheer 300ft cliff face in the Taihang Mountain range in Linzhou, Henan province, China. As you get closer to the top, buffeting winds make joints and hinges creak, and you are more than likely to see a bird or two flying around your head. Definitely not a walk for the faint of heart.
